Maria Carmela Taob
Carmela, a licensed nutritionist-dietitian, transitioned to academia following nearly five years of experience in the food service industry. She advanced her knowledge by pursuing graduate studies in nutrition, where her research on the utilization of dried beans in complementary feeding for children fostered meaningful connections with the indigenous community of Sadanga, Mountain Province. Driven by her passion, Carmela aspires to engage in community-based initiatives that focus on preserving and enhancing indigenous food systems, ultimately contributing to food security among indigenous households. Carmela currently serves as an Assistant Professor at the Department of Food Science and Nutrition, College of Home Economics, University of the Philippines-Diliman.

Our US offices are based in Denver, Colorado, which is the land of the Cheyenne and Arapaho and 48 other Indigenous Tribes and Nations who call Colorado home. They are the original Stewards of this stolen land and it is because of their successes and continued hardships that we are able to engage in our collective work of restoring the indigenous practice of saving seeds.
